This is a snapshot showing Brazils Military Strength
In 2020, the number of people in Brazil's military was approximately 762,000. Compared to the United States' massive 1,395,000 people and Australia's small 60,000, Brazil sits right inthe middle in terms of military size!
The Army is responsible for land-based military operations, including infantry, armoured units, artillery, and support units. It plays a crucial role in national defence and internal security.
As the oldest branch in Brazil's military, the Brazilian Navy plays a crucial role in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests, ensuring both national defence and the protection of valuable marine resources.
The Air Force plays a vital role in national defence through air patrol, surveillance, and support for ground operations. Additionally, it is involved in transport missions and aerial surveillance, supporting the Brazilian Armed Forces and Navy.
Brazil has many neighbouring countries, so these borders need to be defended. These include: Venezuela, Bolivia, Suriname, Guyana, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, French Guinea and Colombia. This is very different to Australia, as an island we have no neighbouring countries that share our border.
Australia and Brazil are not military allies, however, they share common interests and have a good relationship in terms of trade and economics. They also don't share any borders and are not a threat to each other.
